Site upload sticlks/hangs at word index/sending base files.

I have had an epidemic of client sites (four or five) who suddenly cannot upload as the process hangs at word index/sending base files.

Am I alone or is anyone else getting this?

Are they all on the same hosting platform?

It seems to have been an ftp server issue, although the websites are on different servers they have the same ftp server which wasn't immediately discoverable.
