Page width not setting to variable

I have a site near completion but getting a really odd behaviour on the page width. The default page width for content is set to 1250px. For category pages with a filter sidebar, it's changed within the control panel to 1000px. Works great. When I preview the page still good. But when i preview the site or upload, the same value reverts to 1250px. What could possibly becausing this ?

If you look at the css you'll see .content-area is set to 1250px but within the page settings it is set to 1000px. As I say, within Sellerdeck and on page preview it is 1000px but changes on site preview or publishing.

If the CSS is in the Current Stylesheet this is a file that is common to all pages. You can't use page specific code there.

You can put some overrides into the Overall Layout (after acting.css is loaded).

ok, that makes sense. I've taken the line from the stylesheet and placed it directly into the page as in online style.
