    PayPal IPN failing since 1and1 / Ionos server update

    I'm going to have to investigate this some more but thought I'd check at the same time if anyone else is seeing the same thing.

    Since the 1and1 / Ionos server update last week my paypal IPN callbacks have been failing leading to the orders showing in Sellerdeck as Pending PSP. The good news is this is invisible to the customer as they still get returned to the receipt page and the customer email is still being sent.

    In parallel, my error log shows repeated errors (12 or so) of the same error message for each paypal payment

    Program = ORDERSCR , Program version = 48767 , HTTP Server = Apache , Process ID = 50015 , Date and Time = 2020/07/22 12:39 GMT, Error executing the on-line credit card plug-in script. Read error
    Program = ORDERSCR , Program version = 48767 , HTTP Server = Apache , Process ID = 50893 , Date and Time = 2020/07/22 12:39 GMT, CallPlugInScript, report: Read error
    and paypal send me an email saying

    Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notifications (IPN). Instant Payment Notifications sent to the following URL(s) are failing:
    I'm off now to check all the perl modules and the IPN callback url but this was all working fine until the server update.

    All the necessary perl modules seem to be there.

    I've turned on and enabled Paypal PDT and placed a test order and the problem seems to have gone away. If anyone else is still using IPN and has the same problem then this seems to fix it.

      Things now seem OK with PayPal other than they're now gradually sending PDT payment messages for the failed IPN callbacks so orders which I'd manually set as paid are now getting an extra payment marked and I'm having to go through them and delete the extra payments as they arrive.

      Still, it sounds as if I've got off lightly compared to some others.

        We've also had this since the ionos upgrade last week. We also use PayPal and this morning ionos finally installed the Perl modules Crypt::SSLeay and Net::SSL which were missing from the upgraded server and the failed IPN callbacks seem to be cured and orders are no longer going to the Pending PSP tab in SD. Don't know whether or not this is related to the restored Perl modules.

        I'm still waiting for them to also restore the Perl module Net::SSLEay but not sure what this does or if this is critical?!

        Almost as serious, the customer email is NOT being sent (nor our copy). This used to work perfectly on the ionos server before the upgrade (using the ionos smtp server directly from within SD), but I'm now working my way through SMTP options and probably going to have to use SendGrid.

          Hi,

          I was in the same position as you. I ended up using SendGrid, but would prefer using ionos smtp server

            I had wondered if the ssl modules were new as some of my most recent IPN callbacks had been happening, but only intermittently. PDT takes 2 minutes to set up and seems very reliable.

            I’ve used sendgrid for my emails for quite some time now and been very happy with them.

              Aaaarggg! ... don't know where to start:

              SendGrid: I've opened an account with them and they've given me an API key which apparently is also the SMTP Server password. Only problem is that SD accepts maximum 64 characters as SMTP password and the SendGrid key is 67 characters. Am I missing something?

              PayPal: Our PayPal Express Checkout is working fine and PayPal Website Payments Pro Hosted Solution was working fine yesterday but orders now go into the PSP Pending tab and no money is actually taken from PayPal (when I place test order).

              We've been using the PayPal Website Payments Pro Hosted Solution for years to take card payments from non PayPal account holders but maybe this has been superceded as I also see these payment options listed in SellerDeck:
              PayPal Website Payments
              PayPal Website Payments Pro

              So now there are FOUR PayPal payment options shown in SD. Before I attempt to seek enlightenment from PayPal any thoughts please?

                I think I may have just been affected too. It was alright this morning!

                I get the following error on PayPal
                An error received from PayPal Pro Website Payments. Try again or select a different payment method. The error was: You do not have permissions to make this API call
                which is slightly odd as I think we use PayPal Express Checkout.

                Also get on selecting SagePay
                Error: Error contacting Sage Pay, please try again or select another payment method

                On the phone to IONOS but as we have a managed server I had hoped to avoid the oncoming storm as the IONOSupdate was targeting Linux shared servers.

                Any thoughts?

                  The marvels of IONOS. Having contacted them, got it escalated. They have responded saying all the Perl files are there. Of course, it's now working again. Email and payments now ok for me on IONOS and SagePay/PayPal on dedicated server. So far so good.
