Exclude Some Products from Express Delivery

Hi All, Firstly Happy New Year, let's hope for a good one!

I need a little help if possible, I have converted from value to weight based shipping so that I have some control over a set of products that are made to order, however it has not had the effect I wanted.

I currently offer to the Mainland UK a standard delivery service and an express option:


What I was hoping for was to exclude the made to order items from the express option but this as I see it is not possible.

Has anyone got a way of doing this please?

I'm assuming the made to order items do require a shipping calculation, and the shipping is not flat rate?

If so, then you might be able to fudge the setup by using fake weights - eg adding 10,000 to the actual weight for those products, or whatever would push them into a completely separate weight range. Then configure the shipping so that those weights are out of range for the express option.

Obviously that wouldn't be acceptable if you pass the weights directly to your carrier or use them elsewhere.

If you can live with a flat-rate shipping cost for the made to order items, you could Exclude them From Shipping Band Calculation in the 'Details' tab of the Product Details, and add the flat rate as a Shipping Supplement in the same place.

Alternatively you might be able to use a mixture of weight-based and other shipping types. You don't have to use the same Basis for every shipping class.

Far from a perfect suggestion, but I hope there is something here that you can use.
