    Hosting

I have had to have my web site stuck on the dreadful shared hosting provided by Hostgator. A couple of yeas ago I got a VPS on 1&1 IONOS which is lightening quick and is backed up on a seperate cloud server.

Unfortunately I have been unable to get it to run on the VPS and I have been told that i can't use the IONON email with it. Although it should be possible to run email on the VPS itself I have not been able to set this up myself and the guy I paid to set it up has suggested that the VPS may not be suitable, but I don't understand why. No one has really been able to tell me a cogent reason why SellerDeck 18 won't run properly on my VPS.

The test site is running on the VPS using a spare domain bikerstoolbox.com (the real site is the .co.uk) and seems to be running OK except that the email bit isn't and it is not set up to run with my real PayPal account. It is using a temporary test PP a/c. It is also not connect to my PC.

It was suggested that I use TecLan on a shared server, but that will cost me more money as I am already hosting a few sites for other people on my VPS, that run like the very wind, but their payments don't cover the actual cost of running the VPS.

I have looked at SellerDeck hosting, but this is prohibitively expensive and they seem to think that the specs of their server is a trade secret, so one doesn't even know what one is getting for the price and i would never buy a car without knowing its engine size, fuel economy and perhaps performance figures - would you? If they don't want to boast about their server statistics a cynical person might think they weren't too hot!

siteground.co.uk seem to offer some pretty competitive managed server deals - anyone have an experience?

Any help would be much appreciated as I am at my wits end with this.

Can you not just use an external email sender such as sendgrid? You should be able to find the details on the forum.
