Filtering and attributes - Changing the order in which the choices appear

Hi, would anybody know how to change the order in which the choices appear for an attribute in the filtering panel please?

So, as an example - my filtering panel contains an attribute called 'Fruit' and customers can tick or untick three fruit choices - apples, bananas and pears. Currently it offers the choices in the following order:-

Pears
Bananas
Apples

However, I would like the choices to be listed in alphabetical order instead. Could anybody point me in the right direction please?

I would have thought they should be sorted alphabetically by default.

All of my filter properties appear in alphabetical order and I have the property variables defined as text and type in (or copy and paste) the appropriate values.

One oddity I did find is that if there's a number at the end of values then they appear higher in the order which means Apples, Bananas, Pears, Widgets x3, would appear as

Widgets x3
Apples
Bananas
Pears

But other than that it works fine for me.
