Compacting database warning

I had a worrying message compacting databases yesterday which said it had failed.
SD opened ok afterwards.
I did the compacting again on just catalog not shipping and it worked ok.
Any ideas or has anyone else had this?
I have noticed recently compacting has been taking a lot longer if that is relevant.

Should compacting be done regularly or best left alone?

Compacting is good for (large) sites. Just doing the Catalog is OK.
There is a setting in Sellerdeck to compact each time the software is closed if wished.
If you have Access you can do compact and repair from within Access if you wish.

Thanks Jonathan, just worried me being the first time it has failed. I will try in access to see if that is successful.
Support are now taking a look at my simple shipping database.

Download the microsoft access repair tool and run it.
after that, the database will compact / backup as normal.

it happens so often for me have the tool on a short cut link
