    Compacting Error on V10.0.1

    Hi,

This is possibly linked with the following thread raised on V9 , so do apologies for double posting.

    http://community.actinic.com/showthread.php?t=46558

Background is that whilst evaluating V10.0.1, I encountered the following error when I compact the database.

"Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed. Please use Explorer to investigate the problem"

Environment is MacBook Pro using Parallel V5 & guest OS is Win XP/Pro SP2. However, live system using V9.0.5 works fine on the same VM. Raised call with Support but awaiting response.

Any thoughts /advise would be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks
    Nilesh

How are you compacting - through Actinic or outside of Actinic?

      Hi Jan,
      Thanks for the reply.

The compacting is invoked through Actinic when Actinic is closed down to perform a database backup but I haven't tried using MS Access directly to compact the DB as yet.
On a side note, I imported a new backup-file (*.ACD) from V9.0.5 to see if the original DB got corrupted during the import / Upgrade-to- V10 process . However, the problem still occurs. So its either the environment or something within the DB.

      Thanks

        Hi Nilesh,

It could be that your database is corrupt - try compacting from the housekeeping menu, if you get the same problem try it from access.

          Jan,

Following your advise & the update so far.

          1. Compacting via Actinic Housekeeping - Same error as before.
          2. Opened DB (ActinicCatalog.mdb) via Access 2003 and invoked Compact & Repair. - Didn't get any errors reported & it said it completed OK.
          3. Re-opened Actinic & invoked Compact via Actinic Housekeeping - Same problem as before.

So it appears it something within Actinic thats causing it.

          Regards
          Nilesh

Have you got online stock with automatic order download switched on?

If so try switching that off and compacting from the menu - it won't help with your error on close but might help support identify this as a bug or not.

              Thanks Jan.

I've just had a look under the Business settings but not sure if I'm looking at the right place. Presume the setting you are referring are :

              a. Under options, Stock Control/Monitoring - This is set to Enable Stock Monitoring only not Online Stock Control.
              b. Under Ordering, Automatic Stock Synchronisation, Download Orders & Refresh Stock. This has not been switched on.

              Regards

                Just a thought here.

If there is corruption on the DB, then this must have occurred during the upgrade process. Otherwise, we would have hit this issue in the past 8 months running on V9.0.5.
Not sure if a clean install of V10.0.1 would help. If it does, good but then we would not know what caused it.

                Regards

                  Update

                  This issue is now resolved.

It appears that Actinic does not like if the SITE1 folder is on a drive that is shared with MAC although you could compact & repair the DB via Access directly. V10.0.1 was re-installed defaulting the SITE1 folder to the C: Drive. This works fine now.

Jan - Many Thanks for all your help.

                  Regards
