    Pricing products with choices

    Hi,

All my products come in a large variety of sizes, all of which will sell at different prices.

I realise each size choice must link to an associated product (hidden) by componant, attribute and then choice.

What do people think the best way to set this up is.

Should I have the master product set as price zero (with no stock control), and the full price attached to each hidden product.

Or as I have seen done, the master product has a price and then the hidden products have an additional price added.

I'm wondering because, if the master product has 'zero' price then no price is displayed on the store... and I cant show the prices in more than one currency.

If I use a standard price for the master item, with an additional price for the size options then how do I show the prices for these?

    All a bit confusing really.

How do other people do this, and what are the pros and cons?

    Hi

We set our base product to the lowest price as this is what displays in the store. We then have the hidden procuts linked to it. We use the override price option and give the 'hidden' product it's relevant price. Overide basically does what it implies and uses the overide price rather than any other price.

In the layout of the basic product you can then chose an oiption which displays the price of each choice in the drop down menu so the customer can see the prices per choice.

    Thanks

      Hi Donna,

      Thanks for your reply.

Ok that sounds interesting.. I'm looking at product details : layout, but I cant see that option.. at the moment the drop-down just shows the choice name.

      Am i missing something?

You get the layout choices on the area you wish to style, so select the part in question first, then the layout tab.

but hang on... that gives a plus sign before the additional price.

So if I want my master product to be say £10 (the cheapest price)
and a bigger size to be £15 it will now say +£15 which is a bit confusing

I know I could make the bigger size cost £5 so the dropdown would say +£5..
but I'd much prefer it to list the actual price next to the choice.

            Is that possible?

            It did sound like it from Donnas post;

Overide still displays a plus sign before the choice price.

Change from "Additional Price in Brackets" to "Basic Price in Brackets" on the option's permutation tab (permutation properties box, at the bottom).
