Out of curiosity I did check out that bit in the help pages, but I can't see how it relates in any way to the problem in setting up product permutations.

Are you saying that by changing the 'online search' settings, it will allow the permutations search box to accept apostrophes?

I think Jonathan has perhaps confused your post with online searching.

It would seem logical that as you can enter an apostrophe in the product description and reference that you can search for it but as you say it is not an accepted character. One for the wish list perhaps.

Sorry - misunderstood - that applies to online search. However I've just tried searching with " using the permtation name search in a default store. I renamed the 19 inch monitor to be 19" monitor, then tried searching. See attached.

When you use the permutation search it seems that you have to search with the words in the correct order. Perhaps you're being too specific with your searches. In my example screen shot, I searched for " monitor. However if I searched for 19 monitor, or monitor 19" I would get no results.

I think you can enter " but not '.

A bit of my previous post seems to have gone missing.

I intended to propose that you change your ' for " if that is possible.

If you're using ' to represent feet this obviouosly isn't an option, so you could set actinic to show the product references in the product tree (Business Settings > Options) and search permutations using product refs which is what I usually do. I've setup my product references to be semi-meaningful to me and group products together so I can search easily.

No, I'm using it to represent "St John's Wort" which I can't change to a quote mark for obvious reasons

I was searching the Permutations by pasting in a copy of the product name, so I would get an identical match, and to save me typing anything in each time, so the order was exact.

It's definitely an apostrophe issue. (Or should that be: It"s definitely an apostrophe issue )

Just search for St J then. That's no more typing than copy click paste :-D

Or you can just type St J into the product field in the permutation panel and it will appear in a menu below to click on. Even less clicking than going to the search.
