Upgrading from v7.01 LE to v10

I have been asked by a client how big a job it would be to upgrade from v7.01 to v10... I'm sure it depends a lot on the site itself (in a 'how long is a bit of string' way), but I would be very interested n hearing from anyone who has had to do this and what disasters befell them along the way.

    Thanks

I would recommend a redesign of the outer layout for v10. You can then take the products (with a bit of doctoring) from v7 to v10 into your new design. Much faster and cleaner.

That sounds a really sensible suggestion. Is the online catalogue set up in a different way then?

And when you say 'a bit of doctoring', would that be required for each individual product?

If I am doing a re-design (rather than upgrading the v7 site) I am wondering about the swapover. The existing site would still have to sit there at v7 while development is happening on v10, so would I have to have my v10 version set up on another machine? And then can I import the database from the v7 version easily enough into the v10 version?

The problem is obviously knowing how to price this, so I need to have a good idea of what is involved.

      Thanks!

v7 and v10 can exist on the same machine.

There are number of ways used to get the products into v10. Some people do it differently to others.

You could upgrade through v7 to v8 to v8.5 to v10 or import a v7 snapshot into v10 (for products not design) and then fix any issues with the data, then export the catalog again and import it into your new v10 designed site.

The time taken 'doctoring' would depend primarily whether it used custom variables etc. and your knowledge of how to fix and issues.

Why not download the v10 demo and have a play - it's a completely different beast to v7.
