Image Format

Hi All

I am setting up a new site and haven't really setup a website for a few years. Then it was just JPG and GIF and wondered for product images is it best to stick to JPG or use PNG now? With PNG I can load back into Fireworks and change settings. In past I would export JPG and use that on the site but I notice a lot of websoftware including Actinic now accept PNG as a graphic format and wondered is it good or back practice to use the PNG over JPG

I stick to jpg and gif because png transparency is not supported in the older IE browsers.
