    SEO First Heading

Hi can any one help me? I am in the process of changing over from v9 to v10 and having the v10 site in Spanish. (I live in Spain) I am taking this opportunity to SEO the site. I am using Web ceo and have a problem with this part of their advice: First heading on the page (H1-H6)

    Syntax: <H1>Keyword in the Heading</H1>, < H3>Keyword in the Heading</H3>, etc.

It is important the keyword is present in the very first heading tag on the page regardless of its type. If the keyword is also used as a first word, you will raise its prominence.

    My Question is this:

Where is the first heading on the page? I have tried all the obvious ones, (first words etc)
What is the first heading on the page? Is it in (general, name ) or the short discription, or page title. I have h1 tagged all but the page title. what are they classing as the first title? as you can tell this is all new to me and some clarification would be verry helpfull.

You're best bet is to view the source code of the page you are trying to
optomise by viewing it in Internet explorer then pressing ALT V C. This should open the page in notepad where you can search for H1 to see what is within those tags.
There should only be 1 set of H1 tags per page and it should be the same or similar as your page title. You will need to check each page in turn to make sure the tags are as you want.
I suspect the first words you are refering to will be the first words you can read on the page.

Thanks Andy,I have found it from your advice, this raises another question can you only have one (h) heading per page ie: h1 h2 h3 in following order or can you have 2 h2's 3 h3's etc on the same page?

The header tags are there to give structure to HTML documents.

You should only have one H1 tag.

You can have multiple H2, H3, H4 etc tags and ideally they should be nested. e.g.

        H1
        H2
        H3
        H3
        H2
        H3

        etc.

In practice it doesn't happen that way and is not applicable to smaller documents.

The bottom line is, though, just have one H1 tag on a document.
