    County codes

    Hi
I'm just about at the end of setting everything up, testing various components, now when I try 'new order', to allow me to take a telephone order, I can complete the details on the customers form but not the country or state .. looked in help & it says the set up for these is in settings/locations, have checked the UK box, but no counties appear,... is this right?,... also when I return to the new order form it still has a blank drop down list .. where am I going wrong?? do i have to add individual states (counties) & why is it called 'states' anyway?
    Thanks in advance

    States

Hello Pete. If you want to setup counties of the UK, because you want to charge differently for shipping for different counties, for example, you will have to set them up as States of the UK.

OK, but why are they not showing up in the drop down choices in new order form?

        Order Form

Set up the States of the UK by selecting the United Kingdom from the countries on the left in Locations and putting the counties that you want to enter in the States on the right of the page, a line for each. Then you need to set up the shipping for these.

I have done this for the UK offshore. I have United Kingdom Mainland as a country (GB) and United Kingdom Non-Mainland as a country (UK), and have set up states of United Kingdom Non-Mainland with the names Northern Ireland, Isles of Scilly, Channel Islands, Scottish Isles etc. I have the shipping options set up accordingly for these. It works. The customer selects the country from a drop-down list in the country box, and if they select a country that has states, ie United Kingdom Non-Mainland, then a drop down list appears below to select the state (eg Northern Ireland).

Thanks Saucy, think I understand .. will give it a go, its mainly the fact that I find it strange that UK counties are not already included in a UK product!!

Probably because counties are not a requirement in a UK address (as opposed to US states which are)

ummm, but without them I cannot fill-in a 'new order' myself for a phone order.
Am I presuming correctly that eac & every county has to added c/w abbreviation by hand?

is their (ha ha ) an easy way?

well, fair enough if you need to counties for shipping purposes.

But there's a world of difference between the relevance of a UK county and a US state!

                    This is incorrect.

The "required" fields are under your control and there's nothing to say that Address line 4 HAS to be a county. You can change that too.

We use that line for the town and and, along with line 1 (and postcode, obviously), it is the only other required field.

but in the 'new order' form, I cannot bypass the states or country, as it stops me proceeding..........so I have no option other than hand apply every one.

There's obviously something wrong in your setup somewhere because, for a UK order, there shouldn't be a dropdown of any sort. That field would remain a field into which you can type text.

If you have blank dropdowns anywhere then you have something half-set-up or something amiss.

WIthout seeing what you have setup in Locations, it's difficult to say what is wrong.
You should have NO 'states' set up for UK and this should mean that you should not get a dropdown (blank or otherwise) in the new order tab for the UK.

Have you editted any of the MOTO form layouts?

No, I have used the template 'out of the box', no internal messing around, I have UK set up in shipping.
I have sent a snapshot to actinic support, so may hear soon.

                          Thanks for the help

Hi heres the reply & seems such a simple answer but then setting this thing up is going to take a lot of learning as all software does, havent found the 'help' files particularly intuitive tho.....altho it seems wrong to apply no tax when i charge vat...but theres the mysteries of set-ups !!

                            Hi,

Ok, please go to 'Settings | Business Settings | Tax' and highlight the zone 'No Tax Levied' and tick the option 'Do not allow 'None of the Above as a zone member' and click 'OK'.
Once you have done this you will be able to select a country in the 'New Order' wizard.

                            Kind Regards
