    Auto colour tool

    Hi Chaps,

I'm writing a little tool to automatically colour orders as they are downloaded, it will be part of my One Stop Automation plugin.

What sorts of criteria would you like to be applied for colouring.

    I am considering these :

    Order value
    Payment status
Order status (eg: mark all complete orders in a certain colour)
    New orders
    Shipping Type

but can add more if they would be useful to people.

    Cheers,
    Jan Strassen, Mole End

    Hi Jan
For us it would be payment status particularly to easily see for instance "print out receipt and forward with cheque" orders.

I guess order weight may be of interest to some, so that orders over a certain weight are colour-coded to indicate shipping by courier.

Both of those are excellent suggestions.

For 'Payment Status' expand that to 'Payment Type' e.g. Paypal, PSP Pending, Invoice with Order.

And, really pushing the boat out here:

Delivery Postcode, e.g. BT, JE, GY, IM and then the particular Scottish ones.......... this would highlight 'Shipping Type' that needed special attention.

Great, thanks, I can do all of those I think. I'll post some screen shots once it's done.

Could you use 'red' to highlight a number warnings where orders meet certain criteria. I'm thinking that you could set rules against various measures and if met, then the order was coloured red. Things such as:
            1. Excessive order value
            2. Foreign orders
            3. Troublesome post codes (define a list of persistent offenders type of thing)
            4. Third man score
            5. Different delivery address

Basically a number of measures that you could tailor to your own specific business, measures that you can switch on or off and define parameters against.

The idea is that you will be able to define a list of rules and when orders are downloaded, each rule will be checked in turn and if a rule is matched then the order colour will be changed to the specified colour. So it won't be limited to just one colour. More good ideas there though, thanks, I'll think about ways to combine rules together to allow tighter checks, I hadn't thought of that for version 1 but if I can do it relatively quickly if would be a great addition.

For example we already have auto colour here, we turn orders red if they look dodgy (we check previous order for address, telephone number changes, highlight new customers, highlight orders where the customer has ordered a different paper type, duplicate orders for samples). we turn them orange if they need to be drop shipped and light blue for local processing. When they are drop shipped, we automatically turn them blue, then when they have been delivered they turn light green, so you can see the status of the shop just by glancing at the screen.

A desktop wallpaper with a key for the colours could be good!

We would find it useful to colour orders with giftwrap selected and orders that are next day delivery.

How do people select giftwrap on your site Andy?

Would be great to colour code all orders in a particular site.

you could do that by changing the default value in the database - I could add that to the tool but I'm not sure what the benefit would be in this case - do you transfer them to somewhere else?

We then import into One Stop Order Processing and having a colour code for certain site would be useful.

Okey dokey, I'll add that one - One Stop Order Processing multi channel also have a source name associated with each order so you could add that to your view sto see that information right away.
