    VAT exemption

I sell a few disabilty products on my site, registered disability users are eligible for vat exemption. Can some one tell me how to activate a vat exemption?

Theres a selection in the 'TAX' tab that says allow tax exemption but when i turned it on there were no options.

    Thanks

The option shows as part of the checkout process.

Perhaps you are using a country or zone that does not have the option? tax rules have to agree with the location you are using. Also close down actinic, then restart and update, sometimes checkout items get lost in actinic cyberspace.

The tax exemption is only offered for countries outside the UK so if the VAT exemption applies to the whole order you could do this by creating a new location for "UK tax exempt" and put it in the eu tax group. They'd then be asked for their VAT number in the checkout

We occasionly get orders for medical reasearch items which are vat exempt but we deal with these on the phone. As the whole order is exempt we process them as for delivery to the channel isles (in the UK, exempt from vat)

If only part of the order is exempt then you may have to create duplicate products that are zero vat. I think you may be able to creating user accounts that restrict the visiblity of these items so stopping un registered users claiming vat exemption. I don't use user accounts so someone else may need to help on that.

The way you do it would depend on the number of customers you have that want to take advantage of this. If it's not lots then i'd go for offering it as a phone only service - you could create duplicates that are only available off line. I guess they need to fax/ email the exemption certificate to you so not the most conveinent ordering process anyway.
