    Product filter

Can any one point me in the right direction about adding some kind of product filter to my site. By searching I can see that it can be achieved using CUSTOMVARS but that about as much as I know. If there were any tutorials that I may have missed I'd be grateful and couldn't find anything in the AUG.

The site sells binoculars so would like to setup filters for Brand, magnification etc with the option of removing filter. Just the general type seen on most ecom site now.

Many thanks and apologies if the answer has been staring me in the face.

Does the AUG page 111 (Using a Text Field for Searchable Properties) help?

Ideally I'm looking for something like this (amazon as an example)
        http://tinyurl.com/3575y7n

Something that begins with the full list of products from a section or subsection but can then be filtered by customers preference, with the option to clear filter to return to the full product list.

well if you two can't do it there isn't a hope in hell of me blagging something together.

If what I'm trying to achieve is just simply not possible then Lee, your method is of interest.

I'm surprised that something like this hasn't been requested more as its pretty common place in the market now.

It's the architecture Tim, you're comparing an online database site that serves up content and filters content there and then against actinic which is a static offline database and builds pages offline and sends them online. In it's current flavour, it's actually impossible to get actinic to do all that an online database site will do, as you can see you have to do various things to close that gap where possible.

It's just not one of actinic's abilities or strengths, worry not though, it has it's own strengths as do all solutions.

A little late to this post however we have a "proof of concept" of filtering inside Actinic that might demonstrate another way to achieve this:
                  http://www.teclan.net/demos/acatalog...er_search.html

This bit of customisation and development is "within" actinic and allows for filtering based on multiple conditions including user defined variables i.e. adding a new product as normal into Actinic will include it into the filtering.

                  Restrictions:
Server must run PHP, it "collects" and filters on the products only in the sub-sections beneath the level the filtering is on. i.e. sub-sub-section products are not included (in this version)
