Default payment method?

I want to make the payment method default to cards. I've had a few situations where customers appear to have had some other method set as default and yet they are still offered the card details boxes to complete. They have entered card details, not noticing the payment method was not set to card, and have proceeded to place their orders. Card details are not then submitted yet the customer thinks they were, leading to corrective phone calls to customers.

and tried it but found that is stopped CGI scripts running (could not view cart or go to checkout). I tried this twice, both times extremely carefully, following to the letter the detailed instructions given, yet had the same problem both times.

This was in v10 - maybe the method only works with earlier versions.

Has anyone found another method of forcing a particular payment method? It strikes me as being something that could be prime candidate for being a selection in "Business Settings".

You can set the order of your payment methods on the payment and security tab in business settings, up and down buttons on the right hand side. As for having card capturing on your site, that was banned almost 4 years ago now, if that's what you have, i'd suggest a read up on PCI DSS.
