    Importing Fonts

    Hi Guys

Is there a way of importing different fonts, I've looked in the actinic files ut can't find a font folder to drag and drop. Is it possible?

You can select various font families in site options, first tab towards the bottom.

I know but there is only a choice of 5 standard fonts, I want to use my own font, themed for a sweet shop. Do you know how I can import a font?

You'd be ill advised to do so, there's a very limited set of standard fonts used on 99.99% of all sites for a very good reason, they are the only ones that exist across the various platforms. Trying to use one that is not standard will mean you either have to force people to download said font (bad idea) or your site will not look as you designed it for most people who do not have said font (another bad idea).

If you insist, create your own font family by adding a new one to the variable controlling the list of font families, you can then select it in site options.

I understand, but if the user doesn't have the font on their sytem won't it just default to a standard font anyway, which is the only alternative?

yes that was what lee ment when he said it wont look as you designed. Its worth rembering that you might use a font that looks good and fits in your boxes but when your customer uses a default font because he does not have yours it might look odd or break your layouts

you might consider using the @font-face css rule, although that brings with it its own issues. You need to ensure the font you're sharing is available for web publishing, and you need to consider different browsers.

A good resource for generating the CSS necessary (and with a good selection of free fonts) is Font Squirrel.

Alternatively, you might look into Cufon (http://cufon.shoqolate.com/generate/). I've never used it directly, but I did once inherit a design that already had it set up. I didn't really understand what it was doing since I never needed to amend it, but it worked nicely.

I forgot about Google fonts. There's a few more in there since last time I checked...

Try Cufon. Works a treat in Actinic.

                        Fonts

Whichever method you use it still has three drawbacks:
                        1) Theres always an added delay in page loading time
                        2) There is a "Flash of unstyled text" before the font loads with @fontface
                        3) If the site that supplies the substitution or the font is down so is your font
Methods such as SIFR, Cufon etc that use js or flash technology are also not very search engine friendly either I feel.
As a designer I would love to be able to use fonts other than the main four(ish) that are web safe, but I don't feel that the technology is mature or stable enough just yet.
But that's just a personal opinion.
Having said that the site by at http://www.hirstsculptures.co.uk/
does look good and doesn't seem to have a page loading issue on our broadband..

Cufon does not affect S E O. There are several references, this is one: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2...nd-search-bots Google for more!

Has any one tried the @fontface css option?
