    importing flat file

    Hi,

    I have been importing a flat file... its all working well... Just one question.
    Once the import has finished Actinic tells you how many lines were processed.. how many products created and how many errors etc.

    Well on finishing the import, actinic tells me that
    2024 lines were processed and
    2023 products were created
    0 errors

    Now the first line of my csv file has the coloumn names on it.. so I check the box that asks if that is the case on the flat file import wizard thing.

    Is that why I've one less product created than lines processed?
    Or have I got one product missing?

    (The fact that it says 0 errors is neither here nor there as I previously had 20 or so products that didnt import correctly but that still showed as 0 errors.. so I cant trust that)

    Can someone tell me is 2024 lines processed 2023 products created is what I should expect.
    Or have I got to trawl through and find the one product that isnt importing correctly?

    If something hadn't imported correctly you'd have errors.

      Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately thats not true.

      When I first tried the flat file import, I indeed did get errors..
      These were things like missing main images, duplicate names etc..
      I went through the list and cleared them up one by one until the list imported with no errors.

      However I then noticed that some products were missing.
      I found the missing products on the database, and tried to import them on their own. The import went through without error... but the items were not imported.
      After much study I realised that this was because the thumbnail images for these products were missing.

      But as I say, they imported without any error message... they just were not in the shop!

      The only way I knew they were missing (apart from looking in the shop) was because the import said 2024 lines processed, 2007 products created... Leaving 17 products not created. I tracked these down by going through the store manually and finding that they were missing.

      I cant find any more missing on a manual check, So thats why I'm worried about it saying 2024 lines processed 2023 created..

      Is there still one left uncreated that I cant find or is the missing line the first line of the spreadsheet with the titles on... I dont know !

        You could try importing just one product that you know works and see how many lines are imported then.

        It's strange that some products etc are not imported yet no error is collected in the error file - I've not come across that before.

          yes.. I was surprised...
          When I saw 0 errors I was delighted, and then when I saw some products were not there I was terribly confused. It took a lot of fiddling about to work out what it was.. missing thumbnails.

          You could try importing just one product that you know works and see how many lines are imported then.
          Doh ! Of course... lateral thinking, thanks for that, I'll try and see what happens.

            I just did a flat file import with one line of headers and one product..

            It came back 2 lines processed, 1 product created.

            So it looks like I've got all my products imported ok now.
