Duplicate, Triplicate & Quadruple Order Confirmation emails

I am having quite a few complaints from customers because my website is sending out more than one order confirmation email.

Any suggestions on how to rectify this please?

My first thought would be with your host, maybe the SMTP side of their service is playing, any reported problems with them? Does network test pass fine and you get confirmation email?
