    heirarchical files

    Hi,

I need to make some store wide changes to my catalogue.

I want to export the catalog as an heirachical file , make the changes , and re-import.

I've got my head around the layout of the heirarchical file...

but I'm not sure how to go about making changes to store wide values..

Like if I wanted to edit all the choice names for example.. and add a prefix.
On a standard excel spreadsheet, i'd knock up a simple formula and apply it to a whole column..
But I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to do this in the heirarchical file.. as of course the columns can be used for entirely different values.

Can anyone tell me how best to go about editing the heirarchical file?
Or point me to a tutorial or something?

I'm pretty good at standard spreadsheet alterations.. but confused about this.

    Thanks

The first column in the Hierarchical file contains the type of the row. So for your Choices, it's going to be "Choice". Use that in an IF so that you only change other cells on the appropriate rows.

        How about this.

Make a new first column on the heirarchical file.
Number this column 1 - 4578 (whatever) by entering '1' and pulling down.

You can now sort the file any way you like, using the other columns.
When finished you can just order the sheet back to the original order by sorting using the first column.

I dont think there are any 'blank' columns to mess this up.
I've done this and it worked for me.

Can anyone else foresee why this shouldnt be ok?

(You still need to delete the blank rows before upload, and add an 'end' cell to every row as previously discussed on the forum for the import to work ok..
oh and dont forget to delete the number column you created)
