Dont want cart to add products together

    Hi

Most of our products are sold by length and cut to order for the customer, which means a customer may order 20m of something and then a further 15m of the same product and then he of course would expect it to arrive as two seperate rolls.

The problem is Actinic cart adds the product together and just shows 35m of the same product in the basket.

How can I stop this happening and keep the order showing in the basket as 1x20m roll and 1x15m roll ??

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could ask them for the total required and then using 'prompts' ask them to tell you the breakdown of that size. Alternatively, offer the sizes as set products with the drop down list linked to hidden products via 'permutations'.

You're using the Quantity as a length. This will unfortunately combine in the cart for the same product.

You could alternatively sell a single product "Roll of ..." which the customer buys one off. It would have an Attribute "Length" with Choices in a drop-down list for each likely length. Use Permutations to set the price for each length. Orders with different choices will appear distinct in the Cart. A bit of a pain to re-price if you have many such products.

Also, I have an add-on "Sell by Area or Length" that allows the customer to enter the exact amount e.g. 10.5m (which you can't do with Actinic). You set the product price per metre or square metre and the customer types in their required length. The add-on also enforces minimum / maximum allowed sizes.

        Hi 'leehack'

I like the idea of a drop down list linked to hidden products via 'permutations' (especially as I currently use drop down lists for the lengths), ....how would that be set up with permutations from the drop down lists ?

Although I am not totally against the idea of 'prompts' either!

Although I have to admit I don't know how to do either!....I am still on a steep learning curve with Actinic so the easiest method would probably be best !

Could you point me in the right direction and I will see if I can work it all out.

        Cheers.

          Hi Norman

A bit of a pain to re-price if you have many such products.
That's the problem. As each product (approx. 44 of them) is each available in up to 200m lengths. I presume that would be 44 x 200 = 8,800 possible prices!

I will take a look at your site for the 'sell by length' add on.

          Many thanks.

My "Sell by Area or Length" isn't mentioned on my site as it's a usually customised to fit each particular client that uses it.

I do have a fairly general purpose version available though. Here are some notes about it:
This allows you to sell items where the price is calculated from either:

The exact area ordered. Price calculated per square metre.

The length needed to be cut from a roll. Price calculated per linear metre.

You can also set minimum and maximum allowable widths and lengths.

You price the product per metre or square metre.

You can accept sizes in mm, cm or metres.

I have used this facility from Norman on a recent build website and it works very well for my client. Lots of choices there too.
