Can product group determine layout?

Is there a way that a product's layout can be determined by the product group in which it is defined?

e.g. GROUP1 forces LAYOUT1, GROUP2 forces LAYOUT2

Change a product that is in GROUP1 to GROUP2 and the layout automatically switches to LAYOUT2 (from LAYOUT1).
