    MX Forwarding with Freeparking

    Hi Guys & Girls

Could some take a look at the attached picture of my freeparking settings as I'm not to sure if I have them right as we are having problems with sending e-mail through Actinic v10.

The problem is v10 indicates that when sending e-mails it has failed to send the e-mail, but our customers are getting the e-mails. So if we try sending the e-mails again they get duplicated e-mails.

I spoke to support and they said our mx mail was not pointing to actinic servers!?

We have had this problem for over a year now and we are getting more orders each day so I need to clear this problem up ASAP!

I Have v10 using localhost for sending e-mails.

Having search the forums and tried every thing and failed so far. So any help would be very good!

    Yours

It sounds like everything is working however what exactly is the error message when it "fails to send", and is this happening within the software i.e. when you create and send an email? Or is it happening online e.g. from the contact us page?

          MX Records

          Hi,

Why have you 2 MX records for the same IP, also 0 should not be used as a priority 5 is generally used as lowest priority. You are also better off using a FQDN of your mail server rather than IP address.

It looks as if you haven't used an 'on domain' email address for your outgoing emails. Check the email address you've entered into actinic.

There's a very good resource on smto errors here: http://www.answersthatwork.com/Downl...rror_Codes.pdf

This is what it says for 5.5.1

551 – User not local or invalid address – Relay denied.
            (also called SMTP Error 5.5.1)

SMTP Error 551 : If neither the sending mail address nor
the recipient’s address are locally hosted by the server,
then the ISP’s servers may refuse to relay the message
            on.

Some ISPs implement this restriction to thwart spammers.
In our view, here at AnswersThatWork, this is a lazy and
incompetent method of fighting spam as most of the time it
does nothing but inconvenience no-one other than the
ISP’s vast majority of considerate and law abiding users.
In our experience this usually goes hand in hand with
barely competent technical support. At the time of writing,
14-Sep-2008, a typical culprit for this is BT, British
Telecom, in the UK. The way in which it manifests itself is
as follows : you have a domain that is hosted by
CrystalTech.com but your ISP is DodgyISP.com and
you try to send emails from your domain to
            WhatANiceBunchOfPeopleYouAre@yahoo.usa.
Neither your domain nor Yahoo.usa are hosted by
DodgyISP.com, as a result your email is not accepted by
DodgyISP’s mail servers and your mail server is returned
an SMTP Error 551. To correct the problem you have to
call DodgyISP.com and ask them to enter your domain
            name as an allowed sender.

              Hi Peeps

I'm still getting problems when sending mail from within Actinic V10 (Lastest Build)

I have the smtp server set as localhost, we use Actinic Hosting for our mail and website hosting.

Actinic will send a email to a customer when they place an order, but when I go into their order and try and send them a payment rec email it states Actinic has failed to send the email, yet the customer get the email??

I need to get this sorted as I do not know which customers are getting emails and which customers emails are failing!

The error message is the same as posted before!

Just to state this is error is from within Actinic running on my laptop and NOT Website side!!

I have fixed the mx record problem I had.

Any Ideas would be very help full!
Or could some one at actinc check my setting online for me!?

could someone take a look my error file online http://www.gparts.co.uk/acatalog/error.err may someone might know what is causing the problem?

it looks like it might be a rcpthosts problem?

Neil You are using an ip address that has multiple domains attached to it so you may need to use a qualified domain name for the mail server rather than the IP address e.g. mail.mydomain.com.

The .err file indicates that the the domain is not acceptable to the mail server (4: sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts (#5.7.1), this can be a temporary fault while changes to records propagate across the internet (have you made changes in the last 48 hours) or it can be a problem with the settings in your mail client.

see the picture in post #1 above, under MX records it asks for an IP address or for a domain name.

Hi Neil, I placed a test order to try and see what was happening but didn't pay so didn't get as far as the receipt page/ email.

Are you using sales @ gparts . co . uk as your email address in Actinic?

If so it should work and if you're using Actinic hosting I'd get on the phone to them.

yes we are using sales @ gparts . co .uk, customers do get e-mails when they place an order. But its when I manually create a e-mail in their order in Actinic when the error occurs!?

This is still a server problem. The way Actinic sends emails is to transfer them up to the server and the perl scripts then send (or attempt to send) them via the hosts smtp service just as it does for the new order and receipt emails.

Actinic hosting are the experts on what their smtp server is doing and should be able to look in the server logs and see what's happening. They're your best bet for fixing this.
