    Google Checkout

    Hi,
I am looking into google checkout and thought that it had to be a page per product so when you click on the checkout link it takes you straight to the product, however if you use this http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=fro...ebb683905b9cbd there is an ad for Martins seafresh with Google checkout which lands on the home page, have I got it all wrong or is this martins bending the rules.
    Cheers Steve

    I think you're getting confused:

    1. Google Adwords: Adverts. Must send the link to a relevant page.

    2. Google Products: Must be Single Page per Product.

    3. Google Checkout: A way of paying for your order.

The link referenced in Post #1, which shows the GC symbol, is simply showing to the searcher 'this site uses GC, if you have a GC account, purchase will be easy'. It doesn't buy the product, you haven't chosen one yet.

This format only comes available when certain criteria are met (i) the site has an Adwords account (ii) uses GC and has surpassed a certain number of orders using it. The site links their GA account with their GC account and it then displays, to encourage buyers who like life easy.

BUT we tried GC and find that for a site using inclusive pricing GC does not calculate to the UK system. This results in 'PSP Error' that we haven't been able to get rid of.

The 'Authorisation Downloaded' does not match the 'Order Value'.

We can make the order 'go away' on completion by entering an 'Adjustment' discounting the order received by the difference, so that it becomes 'fully paid'. HOWEVER, in V10, this 'adjustment' prints oddly on the invoice (one line up from the bottom of the last product) AND prints the error message (no longer relevant) - not very professional.

Comments welcome. Further, be aware that GC requires SSL - and ALSO you have to login to GC to confirm payment and mark the order 'shipped'. Although still trialling it, we may not continue as it does not integrate properly.

The upsetting thing is that when GC was first introduced there was furore on the Community at achieving integration - Towers eventually obliged. Having learnt that it doesn't fully integrate for 'tax-inclusive' (Google's fault) it turns out that very few people actually bother with it. In our trial we've had two orders in four weeks (both of which caused the above problems).

        Available here.

          Hi Paul,

This sounds very odd. Are you saying Google Checkout takes the correct payment but for some reason it shows up as a different value when the payment appears in Actinic?

This is probably due to VAT rounding errors, so the money taken at GC may be a few pennies out.

              Thanks for your replies.
Something I struggling to get my head around is does every product on the site have to be SPP to summit a feed or can some be and some not?

Everything on your feed has to be SPP.

Not quite, Mike, and apparently this is a known issue when the site uses 'tax inclusive pricing'. It IS mentioned in Actinic Help AND in Google's notes.

Yes Duncan it IS to do with some sort of 'rounding' (!) but none of Actinic's alternatives seem to match GC's American method.

I have a very complicated one I'm trying to get to the bottom of in a spreadsheet.....

And, it would seem, EVERYTHING must be unique - offer discounts (such as '5 for the price of 4') on more than one line of the order, throws up an error message - "5 for the price of 4 is not unique in this shopping cart".

Turns out the issue was not related to 'rounding' - the order contained several discount lines, and although GC correctly calculated the inclusive tax, it did not deduct it from the discount amount. Consequently it gave away the amount of the tax on the discount.

                      Actinic (tax inclusive pricing):
£120.00 item (inc. £20.00 tax, net value £100.00)
£-30.00 discount (inc. -£5.00 tax, net discount £-25.00)

                      ((£100 - £25) + (£20 - £5) tax) = Total £90.00 to pay (inc £15 tax)

                      Google Checkout:
£100.00 net item value exc. tax
                      Discount £-30.00
                      Tax included £15.00

                      £100 - £30 + £15 = £85 actually paid!

Good spot. Try explaining that one to Google. Be interested on what they have to say about it.
