Google throwing up old but active pages?

Firstly, hello! I'm new here, having just purchased a business which is already using Actinic v 10. I've had a search, but can't find the answer to my issue, please point me in the right direction if I've missed a thread or easy answer though.

As I said I recently purchased a business, downloaded Actinic and uploaded a Snapshot of the website, the company hosting my website changed the Paypal details over for me, from the old owner to me, this was a little glitchy as at first the whole website reverted to an old version despite all the updates I'd made, anyway, they resolved this and all was fine....

....until I started getting orders for items no longer on the website. It appears that although these items are no longer there, if you search for them via Google you can see old pages of the website and you can put these items into your basket and buy them. Actinic wasn't giving me notification of these orders although they were there and it was only by a Paypal notification popping up that I knew we had a new order.

It's hapened four times in the past 4 or 5 days (The items are out of stock everywhere, so anyone wanting one would Google for it I guess).

Is this a known issue? is it easily fixable? Or could it be something to do with the changes made when the site switched owners. It's not a problem the previous owner had, which seems odd.

    Thank you in advance!

Is your site hosted in a different place to the previous owners?

The old owners need to ensure their old site is deleted from their hosting as it sounds as though they've just left it there.
I presume you've seen these pages? Is the site there in its entirity? Can you tell whether it's the old owner's site?
If so, the only thing you can do is contact them and ask that they remove it ASAP

It's hosted by the same people, the weird thing is that the products were removed from the site before I took over. The payments are coming through to my Paypal account rather than the old one.

      This is an example: http://79.170.40.172/petitpoppet2.co...olarweave.html

This iteme has been removed from the site, but you can put it in your basket, it then takes you to the current site, with all the new content.

I spoke to the company hosting the site and they've suggested it's an Actinic issue and sent me here...

Removing products from the Actinic catalog will not remove the old pages from the server. I suggest you look at cleaning the server space and reloading.

It looks as though it's been uploaded via IP address as well as using standard network settings then.

Did you upload, using different network settings, at any time? (or perhaps the old owners did)

I presume your current site doesn't use the http://79.170.40.172 information in the network settings?
At some point, it's been uploaded using IP rather than domain (often done prior to domain propogation with a new host)

You say it's the same hosting company but is it the same hosting or a new account (yours) with the same company as the previous owners used?

            I would suspend the site

            Make a snapshot of it

Then either FTP into the site and remove everything apart from the CGI-BIN ( remove all its contents though) so you have a clean site or alternativly ask your hosting company to refresh your site back to a new site

            Un-suspend site

            Refresh site via actinic

Is it worth mentioning now that my computer skills run to updating Facebook?

I'm improving, but really, this is way beyond me. My hosting company have suggested I perform a full site refresh, is there an idiots guide to doing this somewhere I'm v. wary of doing something incredibly stupid.

Tracey - You're right in that there is something odd about the old pages. I'm finding it quite hard to answer questions because I just don't have a clue!

Feeling very much like the new girl trying to hide at the back for fear of revealing her idiocy!

                OK try this Open Actinic

                Make a snapshot

                Open File

                Click on Snapshot

Select a place on your hard disk to save the file

                When finished

                Click on Help Menu
                Click on Troubleshooting
Click on Website Purge and Refresh
Tick the three boxes that are now shown and then press Delete & Refresh

When finnished make another snapshot and keep it in a safe place

This should clear the old stuff out

                Good Luck

Actinic do run courses at intervalls on the software, but most daily requirements are covered in their small handbook which comes with the software or Advanced User Guide

Changing the paypal details is usually done within the Actinic Software and am not sure what the hosting company would change on the server, as I would think that any changes wpuld be overwritten the next time the site was uploaded.

Are you also clear that any changes made to the website should normally be done within the Actinic desktop software and not directly on the server (except for deleting old pages, etc) as any changes made on the server will get overwritten by Actinic.

I think the OP meant payment details for the hosting account, not within the site/Actinic itself?

Actinic Catalog still generates info_ and .cat files for deleted products, and does not remove .cat files for deleted sections - something which has never been fixed since v3

                        Hi all,

i have the same problem, i was going to post last night but spent a while searching for a cure.
google and other search engines are picking old pages up from as far back as 2007.
i've tried what chris says but that doesn't work.

could do with some help here..., thanks

If a full website purge and refresh isn't removing them, you'll probably have to FTP in to the site, empty the acatalog folder and refresh the site again to upload only the current pages.
Download orders first and then suspend ordering (if a busy site) or do it at a quiet time of day/night so you don't inadvertantly delete any order files.

                            will try Tracey's method later.

                            thanks

Thanks for all your help, I'll attempt a full refresh late tonight when the site is quiet (those instructions are REALLY helpful by the way!) Just to clarify, with regards to the Paypal thing, I sent them a snapshot, they made the alterations, sent it back and I uploaded it, so it was done within Actinic, just not by me!
