Basically I'm converting all variants (let's use the e's) i.e. èéêë into plain old e. Both in the index and the customer entered search term.

Thus if the word épée is in the product description, the customer can search for it using either epee or épée.

Likewise if the word epee is in the product description, the customer can search for it using either epee or épée.

If your language has words where a diacritic isn't just an accent but changes the word meaning, then that may be a problem as you may then get spurious results. E.g. I'm in Turkey just now and "bol" means ample but böl means divide so you would get more results than expected.

      Works a treat!

Just implemented on client's site and initial testing shows it works perfectly!

Thanks very much Norman for your cunning solution.
