    Linking to Products

I have created some side boxes and info etc. I wish to include clickable links to selected products. How can I achieve this as I can't find the 'href' of any of the products. Are they hidden away somewhere where they can be found?
    Thanks Mike

Are they SPP products, if so just link to the page they are on, if not SPP, why not, they almost certainly should be. However you can link to a product in a certain place on the page by using the product anchor which is included as part of the product layout, denoted by an <a name="blah"></a> etc. Click on a product in a marketing lists to see the formation of a URL, that is what you want to do, better still why not keep it simple and use an actinic marketing list to maintain it all for you and just rename the title if new products or best sellers are not what you want it called.

      Linking to Products

Hi, Firstly, I'll show my ignorance....what are/is SPP?
For some reason, I can't find any product anchors etc, <a name="blah"></a> headings as such, which probably means I'm looking in the totally wrong place, any clues here?
I've already clicked on products in the marketing lists but no URL's show, once again, must be looking in the wrong place!

Using the design, linking to products isn't a problem as facilities etc are in place to acheive it, but with my mod's the only way I can link to anything is to enter the whole www......URL etc, which I was hoping I could avoid and just go to the product instead of the whole page etc.

      Cheers Mike

SPP = Single Product per Page

The product anchors will be visible in the live code on the site, if you have none, then this will have been removed by mistake from the product layout, in which case locate the layout in the design library, right click on it and revert it back to factory standard is probably your best bet.

If you click on a product within a marketing list, you will be taken to the page where that product exists, if not then your marketing lists are broken also. The URL is what shows in the address bar of your browser.

          Linking to Products

Hi and thanks for the info.
No, not SPP, there are far too many products and they are sorted into related sections so that customers can choose the best for their needs etc, complicated subject and products. I can sort a link to the page but was rather hoping I could link to a product, not all as the side display was for any promotions or offers on at the time and would change regularly. ie: 'For this weeks special offer' CLICK HERE and this bit to be the link URL etc.

You can do that, as i mentioned, if you look at the resultant URL once you have clicked on a product in a marketing list, you will see an anchor tagged onto the end of the URL, that anchor is the anchor included in the product layout of the product in question.

Go to a page which contains a product that is contained within a marketing list, note the URL. Then click on that product within a marketing list, note you go to the same page, but direct to that product and that the URL is slightly different. The difference is what you need to do ie add the anchor of the product in question to the URL of the page.

Question still stands why you don't just use a normal marketing list and rename it to special offers?

Hi, thanks that seems logical. I'll work on that.
With regard to a 'Marketing List' seems a good idea but how do I create a new list and name it 'Special Offers' etc. I can see the Also Bought, New Products etc etc but how do I create a new one?

You don't create a new one, you rename an existing one, get it showing in your sidebar first, that's 99% of what you need to do, the name change is a simple one.

OK, now I'm lost. How do I get a marketing list to show in a side bar?

Options for the marketing lists are in both the drop down marketing menu and also in settings > site options > layout. Take 10 minutes out, explore the software and get used to things. Lots of control in this area, well worth the time investment to learn it.

                      Hi,
I've already set up and have enabled 'Also Bought' 'Best Sellers' and 'Related Products' but they are available within the program, so how do I create another and name it different?

Use 'new products' perhaps? you only have new products and best sellers as options to rename (as global lists), there are no others, there is no extras, choose one of those, add it to the sidebar via the settings, add your products into it where already indicated and then rename the list.

You'll need to go into the list layout for that area via the design tab, backup before you start exploring just in case. Click on the title you wish to change, you should then see the code for that area, click the upward arrow to access the list layout.
