    .fil files can I delete

Hi I have exceeded my disk quota on my host.

Can I delete any files to reduce space. I have searched for an answer before posting and it looks like I can delete .fil files - Will that cause any problems. Are there any other files I can delete (and where can I find them please)

    Thanks in advance

Decide on a quiet time, delete everything off the server leaving just an empty cgi-bin and acatalog folder and then refresh the website. That way only what is needed will be loaded online. Or just up the quota, if you are sailing close, unless there is something wrong on there, you will never not sail close from now on, so what's the point of skimping on the most important part of the site.

I would suspect that your images are taking the lion's share.
See if you can optimise them to reduce their file sizes.

For example your homepage is 2.4Mb with 29 images taking 1.8Mb of that.

How much space are you using/do you have with your hosting?

I am on Actinic Hosting Silver, I have just gone over the limit. I felt that there must be rubbish up there somewhere, log files or things like that. I have begun to reduce the image sizes.

I found a post that said delete .fil and .cat files and then refresh, but I was worried I might lose something important so I thought I would ask the experts first.

        Thanks

Are you sure it's disk space quote you've exceeded. The lowest Silver package allows 1.5Gb and that's a pretty big allowance for just web pages and images.

Do you have any huge files at all (other than that massive animated GIF that will be slowing down your home page for all new customers)?

If so, they're the things to prune instead of any Actinic generated stuff.

Thanks Norman your answer reminded me of something. Recently I was trying to fix the non www version of my site in the host panel, I added a site and Actinic will be warning about that. I looked quickly and it looked like I was just over the quota on my real domain, but its shown in MB. My report shows 1.04gb and not 1.4gb.

Sorry to have mislead everyone, however the earlier answers are still valid, need dealing with and are most welcome.

            Thanks all

The log files get massive sometimes - we have to call Actinic to get ours removed as we don't seem to be able to empty them ourselves, I would recommend checking the size of those.

Also if you are going to wait for a quiet time and delete everything, make sure you download orders first (sorry if that is obvious).

Thanks - do you know where the log files reside.

They are in the imaginatively-named folder "logs."

Yes that what I thought, I asked because I cant see any log files on the server, so assumend log files are called something else in actinic.

                      cheers
