Can you add Barcodes to choices?

Hi,

I am trying to barcode all my products but a lot of them have drop down menus with choices and I was just wondering how to barcode these choices.

Can anyone help?

Each variation would normally need it's own code so would need to exist as a separate product linked to the main product.
