I wish to create sales reports by product category. By this, I mean, I wish to add a custom variable defining a product family (books, comics, tshirts etc), then use this to create monthly sales reports, summarised by product category/family. Assuming I can get enough of a handle on crystal reports to write this myself, how do I integrate the custom variable so as to sum on it? As far as I understand it, custom variables are stored in a seperate table to the invoice lines. If this is too complicated for me to achieve, is this sort of report available already (maybe a mole end?), or if not, would it be expensive to have custom written (I'm guessing by Jan or Duncan)?
All this assumes there isn't an easier way to achieve such a sales report, using existing variables, without me creating my own.
