    Global default SPP links

Is there a way to globally set the "Links from Product List" setting against the products "Links" tab? Eg globally set clicking product image opens the extended info page.

At the moment it appears this is a product by product basis which could prove a usability mare if no global setting is available ... or have I just missed it?

I think it is a 0/1 flag via hierachical Jonty, don't know of any other way, unless you just take the switch of the product image layout and bypass it?

Aye - I can see it can be bypassed with some acid-etched hard coding but for out for the box n00bs adding new products and having to set the links settings over and over for each product. Yawn.

        Hello Jonty

You could give the new Single Product Page tool a try. More details here . It will allow you to batch update the products and their SPP settings in one go.

          Hi Krithika,

that is not really the point as my sites are set as I want them. When a new user comes along and buys v11 as their first software with no old sites they still need to be able to (=use parent) the SPP settings for the new products they are adding to the site.

I do not have to manually set the product layout against each product - it is set globally and it populates down. If it needs to be changes locally it can be done but in the majority of times it stays the same. Can you imagine having to set the product layout, price format, add to cart layout etc manually each time you add a new product? This is what they have to do with the SPP settings if they do not want to use the default options.

This really needs addressing so as not to mitigate the usefulness of the SPP generator.

For new sites, product pages are enabled by default for all products. This can be overriden at site level by unticking 'Generate a Separate Page for Each Product' in Business Settings | Options | Miscellaneous Options; or at Section level by unticking 'Generate a Separate Page for Each Product' in the Product Page tab of the Section Details.

Enabling product pages cannot follow the same 'Use Parent' behaviour as selecting a layout, because certain processing needs to take place when a product page is first enabled. Eg the page needs to be given a name, which has to be different for every page - it cannot be inherited.

Hi Bruce - it was the radio options from the products links menu eg what action clicking the product image does.

As far as I can see these are set against each product only and not globally. If the default option when clicking the product image is not what I prefer then I have to change every product manually. These options do not have to be unique so could be inherited.

ISWYM. That was raised in beta testing for the link text itself, but not the link settings, and unfortunately it was too fundamental a change to make at that stage anyway. We logged a usability issue, I will add your comment to it and see if we can do anything about it further down the line.

Was any of this ever resolved?

I've stumbled on this thread while trying to find out if I can set default linking options for products and/or set them to inherit from parents in individual sections. I agree with the other comments about how tedious and time consuming it is to have to alter the radio buttons for every new product added.

                  TIA
                  Debbie

Unfortunately we have not been able to change this yet. Thanks for your comment, I have added your input to our internal report of the issue.
