Red login button from cart in fresh theme

From within check out, when running the login routine by clicking the red login button, and then completing login by entering user name and password, you then click the login button, the routine completes and you are logged in, but, you are no longer in check out, you have been re directed to the catalog.
Can this be changed so that the user returns to where he was, (check out).

Solved by disabling SSL

OK if you don't need SSL - but I use SSL on my site so this is definitely a problem for me. Any way that the button can return users to that same checkout page?
