Single Product Pages - What is New?

My site already has a separate section for each product.

Looking at the new single product page feature, it is not clear if my site is affected by this new feature.

Can somebody please explain?

You will not be affected. The new option is to allow an easy way to initially create SPP with a simple checkbox that doesn't require a section for each product. You can still do it in the manner you have.
