    Version 11 - Stock Control

    Hi,

It's been a while since I've developed an Actinic site for customers, but one such potential customer has appeared and they have a question about stock control.

I know this has been an issue in the past, but I wondered if version 11 deals with it differently?

Say they have limited stock of a product, when they upload they set their stock to be 5 products.

Can someone order more than 5? Or, can more than 5 orders (each with a quantity of 1) be made?

How does Catalog deal with such a situation now?

    TIA for your assistance.

Actinic has had Real Time Stock Control since V10.0

    Real Time Stock Control
    • Actinic can now track stock levels in real time on the web site; display stock levels in web pages; automatically prevent ordering of out of stock items; and provide automatic stock level synchronisation between the web site, the offline order database, and Actinic EPOS systems.
I've no idea if this is in Catalog or just Business. Best to call Actinic Sales and discuss.

RTS is on both Catalog and Business. The full product comparison is here:

Why not download the free 30 day trial and take a look, it's changed quite a bit since you last saw it.

Basically, there are two options when you select the product item:

            1. ' Details ' Option : You can set minimum and maximum quantity which a customer can buy online. Value of '0' in any field indicates no limits.

            2. ' Stock ' Option: This is used to control stock movement. ' Estimated Stock in Hand ' shows how much is left in stock.

I hope that would help you in figuring out.

I plan to move from v9 to v11 shortly, and the improved stock control is an interesting feature. The options appear to be either saying that an item is in stock, OR to give an actual stock figure.

Another nice option - but I am assuming this cannot be done at the moment - would be to be show the actual stock figure, up to a certain point, say 20 for example, and then the site would simply show 20+.

If I have only 3 of a particular item, then showing this fact might encourage someone to buy, since it is nearly sold out. However if I have had to buy a large consignment of something and had it sent by ship from China, I might not want to reveal the fact that I have 3,500 in stock!

Anyone else feel the same way?

You could achieve this using a bit of Javascript.

I think it's all done in the javascript so changing the display when more than 20 in stock (for example) to say '20+' or whatever would be quite easy.
