    Links from Product Page

I seem to have fallen foul of an issue with the new product page setup.

Normally, when you click on a product image on our site it pops up with a larger image on the extended info page. I have been putting a number of new single product pages in with the product page feature. When you are browsing on this single product page though, if you click on the image it does not bring up the extended info page.

To do this you have to tick one of the boxes under the Links from Product Page under the Links tab. In my case I would need to click product image link to extended information page.

This is incredibly tedious as I have to do this for each product and talking to actinic support, they say that there is no global way of setting this, apart from using the convertor. Which is a right pain.

The new product page is great for spp but takes so much time, as you now have to click all these links settings as well.

Has anybody come up with short cuts or worked out a way of globally setting these link features. I used to create each product in actinic but I think now I will have to create a text file for a hierarchical import in excel.

There are flags (0,1 or 2) set against these options to denote the setting in the database. If you have backed up in case you break something, you should be able to go into the database, take a look at a product that you have changed and one that you haven't to see the difference and then change them directly in the database. It's much quicker that way but not for the faint hearted. If you're not confident in databases and never been in there before, go with the export route, that will work on the same principle of the 0,1,2 settings, so change it in the spreadsheet and them reimport.

      Thanks Lee,

Yes I changed a couple by hand using the tick boxes, last night and then ran a heir export to see the settings. So can see that it is an entry of 1 that I need to change to. I have Access so might be able to go into there and change them, but it is sorting the data to see which products have single product page enabled. As we have 1000's and the ones I have changed are scattered throughout the catalog.

Just kind of frustrated that I missed the importance of this setting.

Have asked Actinic to put it on the wish list that you can have a global setting. Had just assumed at first you could set it in site options or something.

Just done a snapshot and copied the mdb as well, before going into the guts!!

If you sort the database on the product page field first and then the links flag, should group them all together for you then, even if you just sort on the product page flag though, that will group them and you just need to adjust all those not the same etc. The usability of this area needs looking at I agree, it's been designed by someone who will not or does not have to do this, sure it will be improved though, it's a brand new feature and there are always usability issues on stuff like this.

Thanks Lee, very helpful on working out which fields to sort on.

With much trepidation I have used the SPP convertor. You can leave the main bit of converting alone, Leave as is. And just work on the links features.

So I was able to reset, the products that were already in there to have a tick for the extended page. I don't like using something like this though as it is playing around too much with the guts of Actinic. Get nervous even with a snapshot and backup taken.

But going forward I will still have to tick each field, or use the convertor, which is a snapshot and backup each time just in case, which takes half an hour even with v11.

            Unngh.

Have run the SPP facility, but Actinic is not recognising the details as having been changed, So it looks like I would have to do a complete site refresh for all these products to update with the extended page information even though the link is ticked. Damn
