Search Field Width

Hi,
I've got some custom variables which I'm using a dropdown box to display on the search page. I'm trying to find out if there's a way in which I can restrict the width of the dropdown box. At present the width is determined by the length of the text within the variable but this doesn't work well for me.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

You could apply your own class to the select tags and then within your css set the size/width to a fixed width, so that all are identical in size:
