    V11 Stable Yet?

Is V11 really stable and ready to use?

We are trying to use V11 on 2 seperate computers and have so many problems with both computers that V11 is unuseable.

Would like to know if others are finding this as well, or if it is perhaps our sites, or setup.

    Any views?
    Regards

    Hi Buzby,

Are these problems with v11 or the computers you are running it on?

IMO v11 has been one of the best releases we have from release. This is certainly the view of the vast majority of cover customers based on the support issues we receive.

    However I would say this, wouldn't I.

      Hi Ben,

1st computer, Actinic just constantly crashes when we click on anything.

2nd computer, will install 11.0 with problems above, but if 11.1, or 11.2 beta, gets an error message about configuration side by side error when trying to start up.

I note there has been another reply to this topic saying how bad V11 is as I received an e-mail, but for some reason it has been removed from the thread.

      Many thanks

      Jason

Very unusual, there are very few issues with v11. There have been some issues reported with some installations on Win7 that seem to be related to display drivers but it doesn't sound like that's what you're seeing.

Some basics to try for testing would be to temporarily disable UAC and any AV software you may have.

I presume you have installed with the default location? Can you tell us more about your system setup etc?

Regarding the crashes, I suggest you open a support ticket and then send over the crash dumps (*.dmp files) from the Actinic v11 installation folder. If there are a lot then just the last 5 will do for now. When you open the ticket request that the issue is passed directly to Gordon in Third Line Support.

Side-by-side issues did arise during the development of 11.0.1 but were resolved before release.

To check to see what is the problem you need to run sxstrace.exe.

          To run sxstrace.exe

          - from the Start Menu, select 'Programs | Accessories | Command Prompt'

          - at the command prompt enter
          Code:
          cd Documents
          - at the command prompt enter
          Code:
          sxstrace Trace -logfile:ActinicSxSTrace.log
          - start Actinic to cause the SxS error

          - click anywhere in the command prompt window and press Enter to stop the tracing

          - at the command prompt enter
          Code:
          sxstrace Parse -logfile:ActinicSxSTrace.log -outfile:ActinicSxSTrace.txt
          - use Windows explorer to locate the file ActinicSxSTrace.txt in your Documents folder and send it to Actinic support

While it is not error free, the v11 release is the most stable I've come across. I started with Actinic on v7 so I've seen all the releases since then.

That's not to say I don't believe what you're saying... I had similar problems getting v9 to work and it is hugely frustrating until you resolve it. Good luck with finding the problem!

I also saw that (now missing) reply about how bad v11 was - intriguing!!

Had a few problems. Started with the install throwing up errors as though I didn't have admin rights which was the same problem as V10 (which also gave problems licensing a new site). Once up and running, I've been trying to move large numbers of products around and it is crashing and now I cannot get into that site and Actinic just hangs on the welcome screen and need to reboot the machine and use another site - most peculiar as not had an unusable Actinic version like this before, though I usually just avoid until x.02 at the earliest (a lesson learnt with V8) - and been with Actinic since v2.

                Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm

i have numerous problems with crashes normally related to moving products around and sometimes it just hangs when trying to download orders or update online accounts CTRL + ALT + DEL normally fixes it.

If im honest i do not have the time to investigate and raise support tickets. I know it does not help get things fixed but being that i have had actinic since v5 its like an old pair of slippers. My toes are hanging out but it does what i need it to for most of the time.

The slipper analogy gave me my first laugh of the day, love it, cheers.

My mistake it crashed twice whilst adding a new site lol You are right too laborious finding and then filling in the Actinic support form on the web site - if I could just email as a cover customer I might be more diligent.
Slippers is a good analogy, I'm too entrenched in Actinic though it is getting very annoying and unproductive.
