Redirecting Mobiles to Mobile Website

I am thinking of setting up a separate site optimized for mobile phones with a lot of the heavy duty stuff stripped down.

The first thing I want is to be able to redirect visitors to the main website to the mobile one. Has anyone done this and which was the best option you used?

My recommendation would be to change your site to a responsive web design instead of doubling the administration by creating 2 sites, however a quick Google search returns several methods for device detection.

There was a good article on how to do this in a very recent issue of either PCPro or .NET (can't remember which)

To be honest there willnot be much additional admin having two sites as I shall be using the Codepath Siteclone Actinic (Sellerdeck) plugin.
