Use Sellerdeck / Actinic Desktop on MAC

Having searched the forum and KB there is no definitive KB article on using Sellerdeck / Actinic Desktop on a MAC. Most hits are quite old now (v7, 2009 etc).

Can KB or someone give the current definitive advice to pass to a client to enable him to run Sellerdeck v11 on his MAC?

Please remember hat I know nothing about MACs so please define terms used rather than assuming prior knowledge!

    Thanks

PS There is no apparent way to JUST search the KB, the search box covers community and KB

Sorry I don't use a MAC with SellerDeck but you should be able to search the KB by going to this page http://community.sellerdeck.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27 and thn search using the 'Search This Forum' link on the upper right hand side.

Search says "To search for a three letter word e.g. PHP or SSL try putting a * after it e.g. 'PHP*'". You might find better results through a Google search. I recall old posts about using a Mac with Parallels and other emulators. That should point you in the right direction.

You might find Forum posts but not any official Actinic KB articles about running it on a MAC. Simply because officially its not allowed & Actinic won't support it. On the other hand many people like myself run it including some key figures within Actinic themselves.

It it helps, I have 2009 15" Macbook pro with 8Gb Ram. Using Parallels V5, I installed Xp Pro as Guest OS with dedicated 4Gb Ram. This allows me to run Actinic Business V11 and Sage Accounts Plus V2011. Slightly slow but it does the job. Though I have actinic cover, there have been times where Support won't help unless I move it onto a Windows platform & reproduce the error.

Hope that helps. By the way, If Sellerdeck & sage produced MAC versions, I'll ditch Windows altogether as I moved over to the other side (Dark / Bright - whichever way you look at it)

            Wow! Two great Answers

Thanks Louise, yes that would explain the absence of official guidance, it would be nice on a goodwill basis maybe. Your links will be a useful source of reference, thank you.

Thanks Nilesh, that is a very helpful response from someone actually doing it!

            Thank you both.

              Hi,
I was running V8 business multisite on a mac using VMware virtual machine. Worked perfectly, but it was just a test for my own sad interest.... just to prove it could work! and it did.
back on win7 box now though.

                Hi

I also run a Macbook Pro (2007 Model - 2Gb Ram), but have a dual boot system with a partion on my hard drive running Windows Vista.

Its all a bit old school - but works fine with V11

                Hope that helps.

Sorry, correction to my previous note:

Its 2GB that have been allocated to windows XP instead of 4GB as previously stated . This was setup prior to taking physical memory from 4Gb to 8GB and never getting round to change it. Well, if it works, don't touch it.

On a side note, If there are quite a few people running Sellerdeck/Actinic on MAC, it would be good see Support willing to take calls from Cover customers instead of dismissing it because you are using a MAC. Agree, they can't help if its hardware related, but any functionality/ usability wise, especially if you are running it as a VM within Parallels or Fusion. At present, its a hit or miss depending on who picks up your call.
Seconding, perhaps a separate MAC dedicated topic on the forum regarding hardware, OS, installations & compatibility issues. With Mountain Lion OS expected to be released shortly, it would be nice to see Actinic(sorry Sellerdeck) working without any adverse effect.
