Section Specific Best Sellers

The SellerDeck bestseller system lets you pick / show up to 20 bestsellers however these are always drawn from the entire store.

I'm looking to try and get section specific bestsellers auto generated (ideally with the ability to fix some from each section as is currently possible from the main list)

Has anyone done anything like this before or is there a workaround we could use?

I'm afraid we haven't moved any further forward with this as the customer didn't want to spend the money on the research time

It does describe how it's possible, but the idea of having the whole catalogue in a best seller list seems rather awkward.

Has anyone else had any success with this idea?

I did see that thread (I even posted in it!) however my client has a store with 20 top level sections, and subsections going down 4-5 levels, each with as many subsections in so the task of creating layouts for all those possibilities was hugely impractical (including the fact that as they create new sections then we'd constantly be needed to add new layouts)

It struck me that this was definitely one for the Actinic developers to take on board and put a new option into each section tab to optionally show bestsellers for that section and those below or to just use the whole store setting as default.

AFAIK this hasn't been included yet though!
