In V11, can a product be in more than one product group?

We have a general 'Welcome' discount for new customers (new accounts) which is valid on all products, we currently have a group set up for all products.

However, in addtion, we want to be able to have a specific discount available on a sub-section of products for a different type of customer (we have 4 different types of customer using the same site).

Is this possible?

You could try this, since the Welcome discount seems to be site-wide, it can be set up under Order Level discount instead so it doesn't need to be restricted to any product group. You can restrict it to the Retail (new) customers group on the restriction tab.
If this works then the product group-based discount can be set up on the Cart content discount tab, and this can again be restricted to certain customer groups alone and not available to the Retail group.
