Trialling V11 on same machine as V7 Catalog ...

    Hi,

Is it possible to trial V11 on the same PC, (XP), as my current V7 Actinic Catlaog, (+Digital Download bolt-on), install.

I would like to see what happens if I simply copy my Site 1 into the new V11 - if its the same principal, or export/import, as I need to upgrade as a result of HSBC move from secure epayments.

    Any experience/warnings appeciated.

    Thanks, Simon.

You can safely install v11 onto the same machine as any previous version, but you wont be able to drop the site1 folder from one version into another, not with any version of the software, but especially as v7 is pre new usage methods and variables, as v8 onwards is a completely different usage beast compared to v7 and prior.

Install the v11 and see a default installation to start with, or allow it to import the v7 and see what occurs then, where your v7 will not be adjusted (always best to take a snapshot thou) and you can then see what has changed from v7 to v11 in the design side of things.

Best to look over the Advanced User Guide for v11 also, as it will explain the variables, selectors and layouts that it uses since v8, which is massively different to that panel we had in the v7 and prior versions.

      OK I'll go for it.

I know I did a lot of template customisation on my V7 site but I am happy to go back to the Sellerdeck/Actinic default templates..... which I assume have come along way snce V7.

I am also hoping the checkout process has sweetened up.... a real weakness on V7.

Wish me luck and thanks, Simon.
