    SMTP server and email problems

    Hello,

Just before i begin i would like to say im no major expert with Actinic so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ive been using Actinic 11 for about 2 years, and since ive began using it the Email side of things has never been functioning properly, such as when orders are placed i do not receive an email telling me so and also when updating a customer about status on an order etc.

When trying to send an email this error appears:

" Failed to communicate with the SMTP server.

    Possible Cause:
    1. Network transmission problems.
    2. Could have Changed the SMTP Server settings, but not Uploaded after that.

    Recommendation:
    1. Retry
    2. Upload the Site First, if you have changed the SMTP Server Settings.

    Resolution:
If retry fails, check your SMTP settings
    or contact your ISP. "

I have no idea what any of this means and thats where i was hoping you guys can help!

    Thanks!

    Bruce

    Hi Bruce,

First thing to do is to check your network settings under Web - Network Setup

What do you have entered (if anything) under Email Settings in the bottom right-hand corner?

If posting results, don't divulge your password, for obvious reasons

Also, who is the provider who hosts the email address you wish to use? Is it uk2.net? If it is, then try the following...

    1. Type the word 'localhost' (without the quotes) in the box labelled 'SMTP Server' - leave 'Username and Password Required' unticked - then click the 'Test' button on the right-hand side of the page, and see if you get any email errors reported. If not, then you should be good to go

    2. If you get errors, try this next... Type 'mail.uk2.net' (without quotes again) in the 'SMTP Server' box - then tick the Username/Password box and enter your email address and password as appropriate (this is assuming you use an email address for a domain linked to your uk2.net account) - run the 'Test' again and check for email errors

If you still get errors, or you would like to use an alternative email address, then let us know

      Hi,

I went down the "localhost" route and that has fixed the problem!

Thankyou very much for the helpful and rapid response!

      Thanks again!
