Changing Home Page

Can I please just check that my understanding is correct. I'm thinking of changing the homepage of my site from the index page to acatalog/shop.html. I could do that by:

1. Unticking Use As Website Home Page on the brochure page
2. Doing a 301 redirect.

Is that correct?

Are there SEO implications of doing this.

Bad idea, a site home page and a shop home page is the best setup. Your site home page is the pinnacle page, removing it would be a bad idea on every count I can think of.
