Bad account disables site

I have an item on my site which is free of charge. When anyone orders it and creates an account, their account is created without a default payment type. This 'bad' account then prevents anyone from placing orders. Once a default payment type is added to that account or the account is deleted the site starts working again.

Any clues?

Error message on the site is "can't find cgi-bin/location.fil" but if I copy that across to the site the error message is another file in the cgi-bin.

No, no fix in that thread. It's a coding error, the programmer's haven't thought of that situation and written code to deal with it.

I'll just have to live with it I suppose as any fix is likely to be an upgrade in 2013 and I'm not interested in upgrading again.

This might not make a difference, but have you selected one of the payment types as the 'fallback' (default)?

OK. In which case I can see a few ways of working around this:

1. Edit the perl scripts so that a payment method is set by default.

2. Copy the payment selector code from an active checkout page and hard code it into the checkout layout so it's always there.

3. I'm note sure what drop down code sellerdeck is using to select the payment type but I'd have thought it could well be possible to preset it before the drop down code such that the drop down will overwrite the preset value if active.
