Google product data feed now requires that many catagories of product have a minimum of two of these: brand, manufacturer’s part number, or barcode as part of the feed. We have notice over the last year that despite maintaining good rankings in text ads with google ads that image ads are now gathering more importance and are being noticed and clicked on before texts ads. We have been going through a process of revamping and we now have the following problem.
I have products where the main product that the visitor sees is effectively a ‘master’ – this product has no barcode number and is disabled for the Google Product Data Feed.
The product comes in various sizes: Small, Medium & Large. These all have their own single product pages with their own barcodes and their own stock numbers. They are hidden on the website. They are enabled for Google Product Data Feed.
The ‘master’ has a component for the sizes and the permutations use the small, medium and large product pages.
This all works fine for ordering and stock control etc.
I asked this of Sellerdeck support: “The problem is this. When I submit to Google it is unable to access the components and tells me the links are broken. When I try and access the url it is not found. I thought that hidden products are meant to be accessible if you know the url and that they are just not accessible (i.e. hidden) from the site in general. Am I right? If I am wrong then how should I resolve this?”
They tell me “I am afraid this is not correct. For a hidden product only the 'back office' stuff is uploaded to allow it to be ordered. There is no html for it online. So you cannot access it online with any url.”
My question now to the community is: Has anyone else got this problem and have you found a resolution?
My question to Sellerdeck development is: can pages be made less hidden as I think this problems importance will increase with the increasing importance of feeding the right data to Google for the data feed?
This refers to a site on v11.0.3 but I think it applies to all current versions!
