    Is this a scam?

    Hi,

    Just received an e-mail from a Deborah Harris @ sellerdeck saying I need to click a link to update my Sellerdeck software - something to do with payment gateways.

    Alarm bells are ringing because it was sent to my sales@... email address (the one on my site) and not to the address I have registered with Sellerdeck. The e-mail also starts with:

    FAO: The Web Manager

    Dear Sir or Madam

    We have been attempting to get in touch with you by telephone. Please see the link below that will update your payment providers in SellerDeck/Actinic. ...
    I have Sellerdeck support, so they know me by name and my phone has been working fine.

    All the hallmarks of a scam, but the e-mail header and link inside seem genuine! Thought I'd better check here first though....

    Sage Pay Payments Upgrade

    Hi,

    I would like to assure you that this email is a legitimate email from SellerDeck.

    Deborah has been tasked to contact all the SellerDeck customers who are currently using Sage Pay as a payment method.

    The reason we are asking customers to run this link is because Sage Pay recently had some downtime with their payment gateway, and they had no way of knowing what customers were SellerDeck Customers, therefore had no way of telling you about the down time.

    This will upgrade to your payment gateway will create a vendor name so that Sage Pay will be able to find out what customers they will need to contact if this happens again.

    The email addresses that Deborah is emailing are are from a spread sheet that our sales manager has produced. Unfortunately he is not in today to ask where he has been downloading the email addresses.

      Have you released new versions of the Sagepay PSP code then? I have had a few of these but they looked like sales emails to me and as I don't want to move away from Sagepay I ignored them.

        Hi Jan,

        There is only one additional line of code as I am to understand, which is for the Vendor name. This is only so that SagePay are aware who are SellerDeck Customers, and who they are to contact if any downtime was to occur.

        We are not asking you to move away from SagePay if you do not want to.

          I think that the email sent around was a bit misleading -

          Further to my telephone conversation this afternoon. Please see the link

          link will allow us to identify you as a SagePay customer, you can then be
          contacted should another service interruption occur that affects just
          SellerDeck/SagePay customers.

          As requested, we will provide you with further information regarding the
          newly re-branded SellerDeck Payments with information on how we can save you
          money and improve your customer service please reply and I will have your
          account manager contact you ..

          Having reread it bearing in mind the information you have just posted I can see that is it an update notice as well as a sales email but we also had three or four calls about the same matter and so had it marked down as spam as well. That last paragraph is confusing for example, it says that I have requested further information (which I haven't) then it says to reply for more details. the first paragraph doesn't say who will contact us but as it said that the PSP would be updated in Sellerdeck / Actinic I presumed it was for Sellerdeck sales to use not SagePay support.

          I'm not saying it was spam just that is appeared to be to me when I first saw it.
