Paypal Checkout from product page

Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought it was possible to checkout via paypal directly from the product page.

I have added the paypalprocheckout layout to my product page and uploaded it. When I try to use the button to checkout, it serves up an error page wit this text on --

A General Script Error Occurred

Error:
Press the Browser back button and try again or contact the site owner

The url it is trying to access is this -

http://www.mysite.co.uk/cgi-bin/os000001.pl?ACTION=PPSTARTCHECKOUT

Is it only possible to checkout from the actual checkout pages?

Just a thought as I don't use this but have you anything in the cart when you start the paypal pro checkout?

No, but I have just tried it in the checkout also, so something was in my cart, and still the same error was produced
